Wipro chief marketing officer Suchira Iyer quits

SuchiraIyer, chief marketing officer at Wipro, India's third largest software services exporter, has resigned.

Wipro said in a statement that Iyer "has decided to move on to pursue interests outside the organisation."

"We wish her success in all her future endeavours. The company will announce her successor in due course," the Bangalore-based company added in the statement.

Iyer took over as CMO barely a year ago, in April, replacing Rajan Kohli, who now heads the banking vertical for Wipro. A Wipro veteran of 18 years, in her last role, Iyer was the country head for Greater China region, which included mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Shaji Farooq, senior vice president who recently joined Wipro from cross-town rival Infosys will continue to have the overall responsibility of the strategic marketing function at Wipro. Farooq also heads Wipro's advanced technologies practice as well as the global alliances function.

In early 2011, Wipro had dismantled a co-chief executive officer model to appoint TK Kurien as CEO, who has undertaken some restructuring internally.

In Wipro, Iyer has held various leadership roles across different operational areas including sales, strategic alliances, delivery, quality, operations, and talent acquisition.

In her recent interview to ET, Iyer had laid out her plan for repositioning Wipro as a company that addresses and solves client's business challenges rather than a company selling sophisticated technology services. The change, she had said, was necessary in the phase of changing dynamics of technology outsourcing market, where technology decisions are not longer the sole responsibility of chief information officers but other business leaders including CEOs.
